Esperance

WA - Australia

Esperance is famous for its dazzling white sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and breathtaking coastal scenery. From swimming alongside kangaroos at Lucky Bay to exploring rugged national parks, it's one of Western Australia's most spectacular seaside destinations.

Where is it?

Esperance is located on the south coast of Western Australia, around 720 km southeast of Perth. Surrounded by pristine beaches, granite headlands, and the stunning Cape Le Grand National Park, it's a popular destination for nature lovers, road trippers, and outdoor adventurers.

Top 5 things to do

From the iconic shores of Lucky Bay to the stunning landscapes of Cape Le Grand National Park, Esperance is packed with unforgettable attractions and outdoor adventures for every traveller.

Get lucky at Lucky Bay

Having been awarded 'Australia's Best Beach', the pristine Lucky Bay absolutely lives up to its name! Famous for its incredibly white sand, this is one of the only spots in the world where you can be lucky enough to spot Kangaroos along the sandy beach front.

The roos roam freely around the Lucky Bay campsite too, in which I highly recommend staying at, to ensure you don't miss this once in a lifetime experience !

Discover unbelievably crystal blue waters

Esperance is home to the most beautiful beaches in all of Australia (my personal opinion, but it's true!) The blue water is strikingly blue, with pristine sandy shores, perfect for days and days of exploring or relaxing.
A few of my top picks are:
Blue Haven Beach (pictured)
Twilight Bay
Little Hellfire Bay
Wharton Beach
Lucky Bay

Catch an incredible sunrise

The dramatic skies along the Esperance coastline are an experience within itself. Some of the most colourful and majestic sunrises I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing, were right here in Esperance. You definitely won't regret the early wake up call!

Visit Twilight Beach

Known for its calm swimming conditions and striking granite rock formations, Twilight Beach is perfect for relaxing, swimming, or watching the sunset.

Hike to the top of Frenchman Peak

Take on the rewarding hike to the summit of Frenchman Peak for breathtaking 360-degree views over Cape Le Grand National Park, its turquoise bays, and the surrounding granite landscape. The short but steep climb is one of Esperance's most iconic adventures.

Plan your visit:

Best time to visit:

Esperance is beautiful year-round, but to experience these strikingly gorgeous beaches at their best, then the warmer months, between November - April, are your top choice!

Getting there:

Esperance is extremely remote, but well worth the journey. From Perth you can take a short flight or tackle the 8hr drive down south. If heading from South Australia, you're in for a treat as you cross Australia's longest straight road, the Nullarbor.

Good to know:

  • Lucky Bay's kangaroos are wild animals—keep a respectful distance and never feed them.
  • Many of the best beaches and attractions are located within Cape Le Grand National Park, where entry fees apply.
  • A car is highly recommended as public transport is limited.
  • Weather can change quickly, even during summer, so pack layers.
  • Mobile reception may be limited in some national park areas.
  • Bring plenty of water and sun protection when exploring outdoors.
